Nicaragua

For my final post to conclude my Caribbean chapter, I wanted to share some of my favourite memories from the trip. First up is a dormant volcano that we visited which is now a lagoon that you can swim in. It was so much fun and much bigger than I anticipated (not that I really knew what to expect). It turns out it looks even better from above and we really got to see just how huge and impressive it is. Definitely a good tourist spot for anyone who is thinking of visiting. 

Another highlight of the trip was when we attended a local baseball game (my very first baseball game). Now I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure they can't all be this crowded? In the end we only stayed long enough to get the vibe and then high-tailed it back to a local bar to pig out on fried food and watch it on TV. In any case it was definitely a memorable experience and one that I will never forget. 

After a few days in Granada, we flew to the Corn Islands and had been warned in advance that the plane ride would be less than pleasant. It turns out I was prepared for the worst and it didn't seem to be as scary as I had anticipated. Nevertheless I enjoyed taking what was sure to be my last ever photo alive.

Once we finally arrived in Little Corn I was quick to snap and abundance of beach, sunbathing, and sunset pictures that I always cherish upon my return to Ireland. Little Corn did not disappoint and I'm sure I have stocked up my sun bank until at least April. 

My favourite experience from the holiday was definitely getting my SCUBA diving licence. Although I wasn't aware of exactly how much work it entailed, it was completely worth it. As well as watching hours of video and studying your dive book, which by the way you are tested on after each chapter, you have to complete a certain number of dives, underwater skills tests and a final exam. It's not easy but is very doable and once I learned to control my initial nerves, it was a lot of fun. 

After the Corn Islands we flew back to Granada for a couple of days before flying home. Once there we caught up on some touristy opportunities that we had missed out on before. One being the markets, we really wanted to pay them a visit and get more of a feel for the local culture. They were jam packed with souvenirs, local artwork and food as well as drinks that they poor in a bag for you to drink (they recycle the glass bottles) which, let's face it, results in an enjoyable drinking experience for everyone.

Life's A Beach

O U T F I T

In little Corn's defence, this is certainly not the most flattering beach pic I could have taken. As we were walking to a gorgeous little place to have lunch by the beach, I did an impromptu outfit shot and really should have thought it through more. In any case, these shots don't do the Little Corn beaches justice. 

Topshop always do great beach cover up's, I picked up this one right before I left for Nicaragua and It was probably the most stylish, comfortable, and wearable pieces I packed. I got countless days out of this baby and it will for sure be a summer staple for the foreseeable holiday future. My hat and bag that I picked up in the Pull and Bear sale were also invaluable for their sheer usefulness alone. 

My sandals,although you can't really seem them (sorry about that), are Aldo and they really are one of those magical finds. I got them a couple of years ago and it still amazes me how well they have held up through the sand, ocean, and general holiday wear and tear. The only regret I have is not picking them up in tan as well. I'm continually on the lookout for great basic sandals like these as I'm sure they won't last forever.

Little Corn

O U T F I T

Jumper: Topshop, Skirt: River Island, Belt: Asos, Sunglasses: Asos. 

I had mentioned in a previous blog about wanting to try out the skirt and jumper, sports trend. Apparently it derives from tennis wear, I'm not too sure. In any case this is my take on it and I'm somewhat pleased for a first-time attempt. It was the perfect quick choice for a relaxed dinner by the beach on Little Corn.

I've had this Topshop jumper for a long time and it continues to be one of my constant go-too items. My skirt is something I picked up in River Island before I left, knowing the light-weight material and tribal print would be perfect for Nicaragua. My belt and watch are both Asos. I live in this unisex watch and love the masculine feel, but lately I've grown a little tired of it. I'm thinking my next watch will definitely be a rose gold, I'm obsessed.

Tropical

O U T F I T

As you read this blog I will probably be flying somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean, making my way back to cold, rainy, Ireland and dreaming of lounging on the beach in Little Corn with the sun warming my skin and remembering the great memories I made in such a unique country.

After spending a couple of days in Granada, a town in Nicaragua, we flew to an Island called Big Corn and from there we got a boat to Little Corn. A quaint slice of tropical heaven that allows you to enjoy your time in somewhat unheard of circumstances, for instance; electricity only runs from 2pm to 5am, internet comes and goes as it pleases and cold showers are the only option. Although the simplistic way of living did scare me at first, you really do learn to adapt and soon you forget what you were ever missing.

I've had this shorts and top mix for a long time and both are holiday favourites of mine. The top is a cross between a knit and a tank and the shorts a gorgeous light weight cotton, I love how the contrast of material balances each other out nicely.

The sandals are of course my most recent purchase, and were a great addition to my island wardrobe. My necklace is Pull and Bear and my sunglasses are Asos. I have had these glasses for a while and although I know they're not to everyone’s taste (mainly my family who love to make fun) I continue to adore them and love the vintage retro feel they bring to each ensemble.

Now that I will be back on Irish soil in no time, I will try to post the rest of my Nicaragua memories as soon as I can.

Granada

O U T F I T

This was my first day in Nicaragua and I was so happy to be there I decided to do a really quick outfit shot before we left to explore. This was actually taken in the hotel we were staying at, Hotel Bocona, which is a weirdly serene and calming place in comparison to hustle and bustle right outside the door. 

My t-shirt is Pull and Bear and my shorts are Topshop, which I picked up the in the sale before I left for ten euro! I love the pastel colour, which is a bit of a departure for me, and the pockets and panelling on the front are nice and flattering. My bag and sunglasses are Asos and my sandals are Pennys. I've actually had these sandals for a couple of years and this is my first time wearing them. They're the kind of purchase I carted around in my suitcase time after time and just never came across the right outfit to pair them with.

I'm still loving my time here in Granada and will definitely post more soon.
